Yorkshire's Best-kept Secret? A Waterlily Paradise

Yorkshire's Best-kept Secret? A Waterlily Paradise

Most people associate Yorkshire with the wild and bleak landscape of the moors or quaint little coastal towns. However, Yorkshire also has a host of beautiful gardens to visit and recently I've been lucky enough to have been working on a project with one in particular. Burnby Hall Gardens is situated in the village of Pocklington not far from York however it is little known. Despite being easily reachable by bus from York this garden has remained somewhat of a hidden treasure. Burnby Hall Gardens is home to the national collection of Hardy Waterlilies and its lakes contain over 100 varieties. In Summer, the lillies carpet the lake creating a real sight to behold. As part of a team of students we've been working to try and increase the Garden's publicity through new marketing and PR strategies.

If you live in the Yorkshire area, I would definitely recommend visiting the Gardens especially in lily season, as the variety they have really is quite remarkable.

My final thought is who needs Monet’s garden in Givenchy, when you have Burnby Hall Gardens?
